About Us

Hi! I'm Lauren - the Creator & Chief Scribbler at Science Scribbles. I started Science Scribbles during the final year of my PhD In 2018. At the time I was also working as a tutor with a charity called the Brilliant Club who place PhD students into underrepresented schools to deliver university-style tutorials based on their research. As a scientist, getting the opportunity to discuss your research with people outside of your scientific field is rare, so for me this was the perfect way to learn how to communicate science effectively.

 

In order to engage with a wider audience, I began creating hand-drawn "Science Scribbles" YouTube tutorials, which I promoted through a Science Instagram account (@lozcallender_). After launching the Instagram account, I discovered a vibrant community of scientists who were using social media as a platform for science communication. Encouraged by this community, I repurposed Science Scribbles in 2019 and created an online gift shop with the aim of celebrating science and all the wonderful people behind the science.

 

Although I now work full time as a Research Scientist, I continue to work on Science Scribbles almost every evening and weekend, meaning I'm usually vey busy... but I wouldn't have it any other way. I LOVE science and I love being able to create colourful science accessories and gifts to help showcase how awesome science is!
